Designed by Charlotte Knott of Creative Karpet & Kitchen Designs, Inc. in Leonardtown, MD. These natural hickory cabinets with vanilla glaze mixed with ivory accent pieces made up this 2 kitchen kitchen. Why 2 separate kitchens? He cooks, but makes a mess and she's neat & tidy.
The front section is her area where she can help cook, clean up and stay out of his way because he needs room. Her section consist of trash bins, a double bowl under mount sink, double drawer dishwashers, tray dividers, pantry, refrigerator, wine rack, pots/pans drawers & a wall oven/microwave unit. Her other request was to have an area for entertaining. The area under the wine rack gives her a nice long counter where she can set up buffet style to serve her guest and not conflict with the cook.
His section houses the 48" Professional Range, prep sink, steamer, refrigerator, and built-in spice cabinet.
The 2 sections were divided by an ivory wall oven/microwave cabinet on the left side while her pantry turned to make a "L" shape on the right side to block the view to his section. His refrigerator & steamer backs her pantry. A header needed between the old section and new section made for a tricky situation along with the narrow galley and multiple height issues. He wanted the kitchen to be very unique and out of the norm. We used curved base end cabinets with angled wall end cabinets. The added oval tray ceiling helped with some of the varying height issues and gave a nice accent around the ceiling light. The 2 finishes were tied in with a four piece moulding treatment and bottom wall cabinet moulding. It was all topped off with a Black Marinace granite top that will make anyone stop in their tracks. This kitchen was a definite challenge, but very exciting and well accomplished. Those difficult areas can make for some creative thinking.
