we have a new house but the finishing isn't great. we are trying to fix the existing handrail its been redone twice already and still looks terrible. We have a dark paint/stain finish on the posts, railing and casing with black rod iron spindles. would you recommend painting white for the casing and posts, and leave the handrail dark and the existing black rod iron spindles. the actual railing isn't as bad as the casing-it has drips and blotchy marks all over it. »
mmonika Oh to add to that, what color are your stair treads? If they are painted you could make the handrail the same as your stair threads. And spindles the same as your stair risers...
I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any combination!
Marie Hebson's interiorsBYDESIGN Inc. Hi libaxter, Marie here. Take a look at lots of stairwell pictures, then decide what look you prefer. I'd leave the iron spindles alone. Keep your posts and rail the stained wood colour. Risers, and moulding all white, similar to last photo. Find a picture, and then sand your painted pieces thoroughly. You should get a professional to paint it, as the drips were cause by an amateur painting it. Good Luck!
Exterior Stair Railings - Where can I get stair railings like the ones is this picture? My house is an old Victorian & we need to add railings to the front porch steps. Thank you! »
