They are the old floors that were in the house. They are a standard 3 1/4 inch wide red oak, with a jacobean stain.

The stairs are 3'-4" wide. Typically, I like stairs to be at least four feet wide, but we were working with an existing stair "chase" in an old house. We rebuilt the stair so that the rise and run would be to current code. There is about an inch and a half exposed on each side of the runner.

Stair runners shouldn't end at the top of the stairs - They should continue as the carpet for the upper hallway.
