Notice the shelves locked in on the sides and inline with the grout joints of small glass mosaic in the back. If the tile is level, so will be the shelves. Use epoxy or a good quality silicone but defiantly use tiles as shelf support

ID by Gwen Thank you for liking my design!
There are no real standard as to which height and width a frameless shower panel should be. However there are rules of thumb. The height of the panel could be in line with the shower head arm, a grout line or the top of an adjacent door trim. As for the width, I would not go below 2'-3" or 2-5".

ID by Gwen narrow but doable. You find shower enclosure on the market that are 32x32.

lyrics1967 We are in the midst of redoing/transforming a tub with enclosure into a walk in shower. Dimensions are 5 feet length and only 30 inches in width. We figured if we could stand in it and shower when it was still a tub/shower, we can still stand in it as a shower only. One regret. We miscommunicated with the plumbers.I wanted the pass through to be flush with the rest of the bathroom floor. After the drain and pan and membrane was installed, I noticed they put a lip there. He told me in order to do what I wanted, the rest of my cement floor would have needed to come up and then set to slightly slope toward shower and it's drain. Why wasn't I told that when I was repeating over and over again what I wanted? Guess I have to pick my battles?

3D-Tile-Design - Bertram Tasch Hello Thomas, I would say there are three wires in the picture. About the holes, I learned exactly the same "stuff" during my apprenticeship as a Skilled Construction Tradesman and again at Master School.
John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. S. Thomas Kutch thanks for your questions and insight. At this point in this renovation I have only help layout out the ground work. The electrical work and framing is all done by other sub trades on the project.

The notch out (recess in floor) was engineered by a structural engineer and all work so far - plumbing, electrical and structure have been inspected and passed by both the structural engineer and city inspectors.

We will be going back to upgrade the subfloor somewhat and start the shower pre-slope process. This will be a large barrier free shower showcasing a nice drain 5"x5" Sioux Chief which I ordered through Noble Company. The shower will have a fixed panel and no door.

As for drilling through framing members those joists are 4"x8" (old 2" stock and new 1 3/4" microlams LVL's) total and no holes are drilled within 2" of the top or bottom.

As for why the electrian drill two holes? Not sure. I do know the work was inspected and past city hall.

Thanks for the comment.

ID by Gwen Here is the answer from L. Yarbrough, the contractor and builder with whom I worked on this project: "I did lower all the wood floor joists in the shower floor location. Approximately 3 inches. Then it was built back up with a traditional " mud set" / "mud pack" waterproof shower pan. I basically " dug out" the floor joists. Carefully measured so that the shower floor tile and main bathroom floor tiles were going to meet flush with each other after the pan was complete." He also had to reinforce all the floor joists in the shower floor location which was pretty intense work. Definitely a job for a professional.

Seaview Glass (Everett, WA) was the supplier of the shower glass as well as the mirrors and the frosted glass panels between the master bath and bedroom (cf. other photos of the project).

bgautrea I love this shower floor and the 0 height entry, I would like to rebuild my shower similar to this but i'm on a concrete slab and something like this will require a jackhammer. And that wont be fun.

Is the 3" drop because of building code? I've heard there are plumbing codes related to being able to "trap" water up to about 3". Was that true in this case?

ID by Gwen There are many ways to find an interior designer. One way may be to contact a local chapter of ASID for names, or browse their website for tips, info, and referrals. Other ideas would be to check with retail outlets (such as bathroom fixtures showrooms) to see if they can recommend good local designers. Or one great way would be to search Houzz for local designers in your area and browse through their work to see which one you would like to work with. Where are you located?

What Houzz contributors are saying:
added by John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. to Top 10 Tips for Choosing Shower Tile
9. Use your main tile to frame a second tile. If your main tile of choice does not offer good slip resistance on your shower floor, you can frame a smaller tile with a larger tile.Keep in mind that you will need to miter the corners so they can tip into the shower and you can achieve the pitch you need.
1. Open-concept shower in Washington state. Crisp tiles and a smart shower layout inspired Houzzers' own bathroom remodels. Houzz readers saved this photo for its open-concept shower, simple tub and mix of tile styles.
added by Ventana Construction LLC to 10 Amenities to Make Your Bathroom Extraordinary
9. Handheld showerhead. If you are still mulling over your showerhead options, don’t leave out the handheld ones. While they can be a bit unwieldy with their hoses and pivoting heads, they have a distinct advantage over their fixed-in-place cousins: They make it easy to clean the shower stall. The showerhead that comes from the ceiling? Supercool, but good luck washing the walls of your shower with it. Same thing with showerheads on the wall. A nice compromise between the two, if you can afford it, is to get one of each with a diverter. That will allow you to use the main showerhead most of the time, the handheld one for cleaning and both at the same time if you want a spa experience.10. Epoxy grout. It is more expensive, unwieldy to work with and stinks. But epoxy grout has a big benefit over its sanded and nonsanded cousins: It makes it difficult for mildew to grow, and liquids have a hard time penetrating it. We have been installing it frequently in master showers and at kitchen backsplashes (where food and grease can splatter) with great results.Tell us: Do you have other things beyond these 10 that you can’t live without in your bathroom?
