Need help foe feature wall - How did you achieve the effect of this feature wall? Did you paint the bricks or did you use white stone tiles? Thank you. »
SHKS Architects We unfortunately do not have a record for this paint color. However, the appearance of all paint, especially white, will vary greatly depending on the orientation of the room and the quality of light in your geographic location. Good luck finding the perfect white for you!
Cynthia Taylor-Luce I'm trying to figure out what bothers you. When you're sitting in the family room watching tv are you finding that you feel like you're in your kitchen because there's no division between the spaces? I don't think a column is going to give you the division you're looking for.
There are different things you could do but you'll have to be the judge of what works for you since you're in the space and I have no measurements or floor plans or knowledge of the furniture layout.
You might want to place a lightweight folding screen between the kitchen table and the living room. If the back of your sofa backs onto the kitchen area, then the screen could go right up against the back of the sofa, although staggered on the hinges for stability.
Another suggestion would be to put a sofa table or a console table behind the sofa, which is backing onto the kitchen. It would serve as a sideboard for the table when necessary, but it would also be a place to put some decorative pieces to stop the eye from going past the console into the kitchen.
There are more built-in type of options that make good two-sided room dividers, but in your case with your limited space I think they would be overwhelming. While a screen has height, it's not thick and bulky. A console table would be bulkier but it would be low.
I've attached a couple of photos for you. The screen could be infinitely variable according to your style, so this is a suggestion only. The furniture piece is from the HEMNES line at Ikea. Good luck!
Floors - Who is the manufacturer of this floor? I am considering sucupira, but it has a blond, orange tone even in the darker pieces. Your floor has a beautiful, even, brown tone. Thanks. »
Stewart Floor LLC Sucupira is a very elegant species from Brazil which gives a nice natural brown tone not often found naturally in wood. Yes, there are some lighter colors as Mother Nature and the soil the tree grows in dictates the coloring. It's a gorgeous sophisticated exotic wood floor.
bsperry The wood floor is Sucupira, a Brazilian hardwood. Typically, there are some very blond pieces as well which I took out of the material stock pile before installation to keep a consistent dark color.
The pedestal table, the spindle clock and the Jen Risom lounge chairs are all midcentury icons. But the room hasn't gone overboard with its theme. It feels contemporary.
