Futuro Futuro Kitchen Range Hoods You may be better off with the pot/utensil holder as a separate installation from the range hood (either a single unit like this off to the side, or 2 smaller units on either side of the hood).

There are several reasons for this:

1.) Design flexibility - you'll be able to resize / move things around without being bound to any particular layout.
2.) Design choices - you'll be free to choose any range hood and any pot/utensil holder you want.
3.) Ease of installation - it's always easier to install modular items rather than a single large unit.

With a creative kitchen designer, and a capable contractor/builder/installer, there's really no limit to what you can accomplish. Check out some of these ideas for transforming a range hood into a centerpiece of the kitchen:

Frederick + Frederick Architects If you have a range or a dishwasher you will want to give yourself a bit more room than 36" so that you can open the appliance and still get around. Also you do not want it too far (over 5') because it becomes inefficient.
