Emily Hurley It's so hard to tell from photos, since the angle often distorts the dimensions. If the look of it works, you can adapt it to suit your space's dimensions. Would love to see a photo if you do it!

Green Mountain Custom Butcher Block We make custom butcher blocks and I think this might be white oak- hard to tell exactly. It is quite a nice look in this space. Most butcher block tops are finished with food-grade oil, but we also finish with marine grade varnish if someone is looking for a maintenance free surface. You wouldn't want to cut on a varnish but if one is worried about water damage (sink cut-out in the surface), I recommend a varnish finish.

Maybe the furniture piece could stick out away from the wall further. It could fit the vacuum, broom, tall stuff at least on one side.
