pfred00 These are annuals in the northeast. Do you create these pots each year or pull them inside (or dig them up)?

brendaob I thinkk these are bulb plants they will die down and then come back. Just when they get raggedy looking cut them down to the ground and they will come back next year.

Big and bold is the norm for leaves. This is not Grandma's garden, unless of course Grandma lived in Bali. The leaves of tropical plants grow big and bold, and are known for their rich colors and distinctive shapes. Design tip: Finding similar plants for cooler climates may be easier than you think. There are hardy bananas (Musa sp.) available, and elephant's ear or taro (Colcasia esculenta) can be grown as an annual.

Plant bulbs, trees and shrubs. There is still time to plant trees and shrubs as long as the weather is not too warm, so aim for earlier in the month if this is on your to-do list. These larger landscape plants can, theoretically, be planted during warmer months, but you will have to tend to them much more closely as they acclimate. Bulbs like elephant's ear, cannas, caladiums, daylilies and irises can be planted now for lush summer foliage.
