I must really love faded rugs because that's what attracted me to this space, too. That, and the books, which my grandmother and I agreemake great design elements.
Rethinking how the furniture is set up can help the flow of a leisurely house-bound crowd. Small alterations such as what the wing chair faces can subtly direct guests where to congregate and relax.
Try a bust grouped with books in shelves for a classic library feel. This male bust adds a classic layer and doubles as a bookend in this handsome library. Does a bust add classical charm to a room? This great space has the perfect leather Chesterfield sofa paired with a blue velvet club chair. The upholstered ottoman is perfect for putting up feet in front of the fire.
Light a fire in the fireplace to create a sense of intimacy and hominess. See how light is streaming in from the left side of the room? As I mentioned earlier, make sure you open all the windows and doors to let in light so a cozy room like this doesn't appear dark. For a listing photo, I'd also remove the rug to make the room appear larger.
Having the rug cover the entire floor helps it from looking like a wooden box. Coffer's being painted inside would have lightened the space. Disqualifier, this is an unimaginative design.
Why do pictures of libraries have no lights? Reading takes good lighting!
I like this room. Do not want to have to use a ladder - books must be reachable.
Fabulous! I love rooms like this - cozy, masculine and not too dark. The suggestion is made to remove the rug for a listing photo. I can see the hardwood floors with the same stain which, without the rug, might be too much of a good thing. I would humbly suggest using a solid rug in a med light or light color such as the natural or ecru color in the pillow backgrounds. The solid color will anchor the room which no rug at all will make the room 'float' with out being busy and distracting in a marketing picture. Love the ottoman.
