Paneling - The paneling is nice but what if you wanted to turn this room into a play room for young kids? What is the best way to paint the paneling? »
Anne DeCocco If the panelling is of a high quality, like the one in the picture, think long and hard before you paint if for kids. Kids grow up and converting the space back into a an adult area with beautiful panelling would be costly, if even possible. BUT if the paneling needs to be painted, you clean, sand, prime and paint.
Abbott Moon What is your retail price point for leather chairs? Sorry, but these will be expensive and I don't want to go to the trouble of bidding it out if we aren't in your range. Not to be snooty or anything, but LA custom fabrication prices will always be higher than anywhere else (except NYC).
Abbott Moon It's Ms. Moon. And you're right -- custom all the way. But based on a photo of an old English mantle I found in a magazine. (Sorry for my snarky response.)
My grandmother is the queen of the faded Oriental rug and I can't lie, it's a look I love. In this case, the dark wood adds to the traditional feel of the space, but the interesting table mixes things up a bit. And I love that cream colored sofa - it's a perfect burst of light in the otherwise dark room.
This great gentleman's retreat features warm colors, paneled walls and leather chairs. A modern X-table with a glass top is a great complement for antique rugs, as it allows the full rug pattern and palette to be seen.
