Leeanne H. I love this look! My 1890 home was restored inside, removing ALL the mouldings and having the plaster removed, which was in very bad shape. that enabled us to insulate the walls, which were not at all! The walls are new wallboard and ALL the moulding was stripped by my nephew who is a wood restorer, and then all put back in place. I've decided that we will keep them natural, and the walls will all be painted the white dove.. I love that white, it's soft, and creamy.

wall color - Could you tell me please.. are the walls as well as the stair trim, also white dove? The wall at the top looks almost green in shade.. maybe just because it's darker up there? »

While many of us may not use our front doors as much these days, we still walk through them to get upstairs, so make this space an experience rather than an afterthought.
Finally, don't be afraid to mix old and new — it can work beautifully. This staircase was probably once all dark wood, but painting the balustrades white and adding the white console table and sculptures really gave this Victorian hall a contemporary twist.
