Liz Callahan The plants on this trellis structure are yews.
Fletcher Steele was the designer for the original landscape design installed in the late 1920's/early 30's. I believe these yews are the original plants from that installation. Steele's design was a 5 pronged brick walk sitting in lawn surrounded by a circle of 3' yews. Our design replaced the brick walk, then in a shaded enclosure, with a more usable mosaic terrace.
As part of a full scale home renovation project the homeowners had worked with their gardener to clean-up the overgrown yews and support them with the ironwork dome support structure. This is a great example of the evolution of a simple garden space.
Helloooo, yoga sanctuary. I would be over the moon if I had one of these lush alcoves in my backyard. In this private and tranquil setting, a mosaic floor seems like a great hangout.
