I am planning an all-white kitchen and have been afraid of it being too stark. I love this one and was encouraged by your discussion of layering white tones. My thoughts are to use alpine white cabinets with 1x1 hex tile on floor with black border. I am using a Calacutta polished marble behind range/hood to ceiling. What countertop material would you suggest? Would ceaserstone in organic white or misty Carrera work? »
Charmean Neithart Interiors, LLC. The white kitchen you are describing is classic and very popular. There are many different versions of the white kitchen, with many variations of countertops and backsplashes. I always discourage marble on the countertops, like Carrera or Calcutta. It is a beautiful look, but will stain, chips
easily, and be susceptible to water marks. Ceasarstone is a good alternative
for white countertops. There are also white granite slabs available that come
very close to the look of marble. Here is a picture of white granite slsb installed.
Like so many others, I love your kitchen! Can you share the dimensions of the space and the width and length of that great peninsula? Many thanks for sharing your work. Beatta »

Anne DeCocco If you click on "more info" at the bottom of the photo, then hover your mouse over the picture, you'll see lots of green tags giving wonderful info on the fabulous kitchen. But no kitchen color. Sooooo, while we wait for the talented designer to chime in with the color, I'll suggest you look at Sherwin Williams Alabaster/7008. These cabinet look like they might also be glazed, in which case you could just paint them white and then do a dark glaze (that you wipe off really quickly). Did you see the pendant light fixture in the middle of the photo. Oh, what a nice space to cook in!
drawer pulls are sugatsune, are they available in a polished nickel finish, indicates stainless. Do you know of another company that sells something similar, square in design. assuming knobs are also sugatsune ? »

Do you think the counters/backsplash in this kitchen would look good with espresso shaker cabinets?? For the counters, how thick are these and what edge is used??? Love this!!! »
jmmmlake Thank you! Instead of doing the white subs (3x6?)...do u think a staggered gray-colored glass subway would look nice? If so, what size??? I also found instead of marble...contac quartz carrera....looks just like carrera marble...any experience with it? Thanks for your expertise! :))
I am thinking of a similar color scheme with off-white tiles and cabinet paint. does it bother you that the counters are more white in color than the tile and the cabinets which have more beige in them? i am dying to know if you are happy because i don't want to go white white on my tile or cabinet color selection, even though most do with the white/gray marble. thanks for your advice! »
Jennifer Orell well, it turned out beautiful. thanks for the advice. i won't be afraid of layering off-whites into paint when using carrara if it turns out like this!
hillman69 It's hard to tell from the picture, but is the trim a more stark white than the cabinets? We are doing our kitchen over with offwhite cabinets, and I am worried that the trim will look different being a more stark white. Although it sounds like you did use different shades of white thoughout this kitchen and recommend not paining everything the same shade of white - is that correct? Thanks!
mitsy on kitchenlab.com it indicated cabinet hardware is polished nickel, researching appliance pull and does not come in same finish only a satin nickel? could you confirm cabinet hardware finish, including fridge appliance pull
thank you
Can you tell me your back splash you selected? I have been looking for a kitchen back splash and have admired the "Brothers and Sisters" kitchen back splash which is very similar to yours. »
tracybuyshomes My gut feeling is it's probably not nearly a pretty as the original one, so I dont think Im going to order it. I may wait to see if the Lemonde becomes available in silver.
LOVE LOVE all your your kitchen designs - Can you please tell me if the counter is honed or polished and which do you prefer? Also can you tell me what edge you have used here? Wish you were in Florida. Thank you! »
Will this design work for a long L shaped kitchen that is a walkthrough to the living area? - Isn't that juttingnoutbisland or peninsular in the middle of the kitchen hard to negotiate. I have a long L shaped kitchen which is a walkthrough for all and sundry. It works well without guests , but not with everyone milling around. If I thought this configuration would work I would consider it, but I'm not sure if it would impede the cook as well as the traffic flow. Any thoughts? »
Here the same designer used some more fanciful touches, like that fabulous spherical pendant, the S-scroll door pull, the patterned floor and the details on the glass cabinet doors to add personality to a white slate.
Here's a different approach. This kitchen was too small for an island, but making it a galley would have wasted quite a bit of space in the center. The solution was to bump out a small peninsula off the main sink, giving the cook much needed extra counter space. This peninsula also is home to an under-counter freezer and allowed the homeowner to do a full, all-refrigerator unit. This small peninsula also has enough of an overhang for someone to pull up a stool on the other side.
Tip: Rethink design details
If your kitchen is not quite wide enough for an island, rethink your counter. Just a little jut away from the walls — as in this kitchen — ups the available workspace by a lot.
I like the tiny bump-out peninsula in the middle - could put that where the current doorway wall is on one side, leave the other side open. Had been thinking about hooking the counter out on the opposite side of the existing doorway.
