Tehama Homes I cannot remember the furniture maker of the dining room table. I do know that it was made in Quebec and bought at Country Living Furnishings in Calgary, Alberta.
floating bench - I am trying to do something very similar to this floating bench around the fireplace. I have a wooden plank, quite heavy, that I would like to float without any visible brackets. How did you achieve this? »
Tehama Homes The hearth was framed with the rest of the fireplace, all done at house framing stage. Stone tile was installed later. The hearth was actually framed right back into the fireplace framing for solidity. If we were using a beam, but didn't want support brackets, we would have the framer set it back into the framing ... so it would have to be wide enough to provide the setback into the framing and still leave a proper width for the hearth. If the beam is not wide enough for that then we would have the framer build a box underneath the beam for support ... it wouldn't have to be extended out to the full width of the beam and wouldn't need to be very stout, so being underneath the beam and considerably set back in from the front , it would not be very noticeable, unless you made an effort to look underneath.
It would be very well supported if your framer does a good job!
Radhika Raghuraman Thank you so much. Will pass on the info to the builder. It is already been framed and drywalled but not tiled yet. I guess worst case scenario, i can use heavy duty L shaped brackets as supposed to the triangle ones. than you again.
Tehama Homes I believe the tiles were 18" x 36", finished with grout. I can't remember the colour but the tile was purchased through StoneTile in Calgary. Hope that helps!
