Siting the home within the slope of the lot and placing large boulders and indigenous plantings around the perimeter makes the home appear as if it has grown up out of the land.

While the focus here has been on traditionally designed homes, brown can work for more modern aesthetics, given the right circumstances. It's ideal for a home such as this one, which is rooted in place and employs natural materials.
