BY DESIGN Builders Aloha and thank you for asking about the floors....they are a border of Carrera Marble with ModWalls ModRocks Recycled Glass Pebble tiles (http://www.modwalls.com/modrocksrecycledglasspebbles.aspx ). The ModRocks Recycled Glass Pebbles are tumbled smooth and similar to river rock, but much smaller format. The light reflection colors of the Recycled Glass Pebbles is stunning on the floor. We used a white grout which was perfect. If we could have afforded the additional week for curing time we would have used the StarGlass in diamond but white grout worked well as a second choice.
Because the tumbled glass pebbles are small, about 3/8" round they are not too uncomfortable under bare feet. We do recommend that the installer be particular to the overall heights of the pebbles when installing to ensure none are raised up too high. The time to push them down or relocate the pebbles is during installation while the mortar is still wet.
Thanks again for your inquiry.
Regarding the white glass wall tiles... - Is there a way to ensure that there's a slight blue (or other) cast to the white glass tiles by, say, maybe coloring the material that the tile is adhered to the wall??
I like the blue effect, but don't want to rely on the reflecting of the wall color to create that.
Thanks. »
BY DESIGN Builders Great question!
Color is the response of the eye and brain to light. Objects do not have a color; it is the light reflected from it that generates color.
Therefore, the color you want to achieve will directly be reflected by the surrounding objects.
Wall color is not your only option to create a bluish hue:
-Grout may be selected in a blue. The StarGlass grout comes in a pale blue.
-Lighting may be selected using Natural (3500K-4100K) or Cool (5000K-6500K) color
-Glass for the enclosure may be selected in Starfire which is lead-free, low-iron and is clear, not green like regular glass (expect a 20% premium for Starfire)
-Floor color may be selected in a blue or with blue hues to help reflect that color to the surrounding area
The client for this project did not want the more contemporary bluish hue in this bath, therefore the lighting is Warm White 2700K. By simply changing the lighting to 4100K this bath would have a very different look, much closer to what you are seeking. Perhaps we should have shot the photos with both lighting to show the amazing difference just from changing the light bulb color...
Thank you again for a great question and to prompt a possible new process for our completed photos.
Aloha!
Are these glass tiles a pure white? - They look more blue-gray in all the photos. Are they just picking up the colour from the shower glass? I was thinking of using white glass tiles and was afraid they may look too stark. But if they pick up colour like that, it would be very nice! »
BY DESIGN Builders Aloha and thank you for your question.
Yes, these are white 4x12 Lush glass tiles from ModWalls, also listed here on Houzz.
The glass tile is a true white and you are right, the photos pick up reflective light from around the bath. Also, we selected a light grey wall color. Wall color will change how the installed product will look.
The grout we selected is a pure white, which in person looks identical to the installed tile.
Side note: We are now using the StarGlass (Dimensions) grout for all our glass tile installations. ModWalls also has this product. We have been exclusively using the color "Diamond" as it is nearly clear and bounces the color of the glass tile off the tiny glass beads in the grout. A green/blue glass mosaic is shown here.
Since using this urethane grout all comments have been positive (and no sealing is required). The installers like how easy it is to use and they are proud of the results as well.
Thanks again for your interest!
Aloha :-)
