It was originally wall hung (from the standards shown on bookshelf) part of a 12-foot long wall unit (which was disassembled and reconfigured for its current use). The metal legs (from hairpin legs.com) were added because this wall is solid concrete and cannot support any weight. I've seen these units in several Jonathan Adler stores being used for store display.

The vertical pieces originally held the desk units too, and in another apartment were all lined up on one long wall. But the wall the desk is on now is cement block--it was unsafe to attempt to mount anything hanging on it, so we customized the pieces by adding hairpin legs (from hairpinlegs.com of course!)

This clever wall-mounted shelf was made for family photos. Note how the designer has mixed in other objects among the photos and played with the composition until it was just right.
