I have these exact bar stools (seat height 30") and I'm building a new house and would like to create an island like this with sink placed as in the photo. How high does this countertop need to be to accommodate the height of the stools and still be OK for working at the kitchen sink and kitchen countertop? »
jwd4 We like our islands to be standard countertop height - so that all worksurfaces are at the same elevation. In this case, we raised the height a few inches, but only because the clients are quite tall.
I am putting an island in my kitchen, shoudl I match ganite top - I am getting an island, it will be longer than wide due to spcing in the kitchen, I have light oak floors, and cherry cabinets and a darker granite, should I try to use the same granite for the island or totally differnet/ I don't know what looks the best. »
This classic Bertoia metal stool was designed in the '50s and is still as current and fabulous as ever. I can go on and on about this design: Here you have a sculptural shape that's comfortable and interesting in and of itself. But it's also got a back that is basically see-through, so it doesn't feel heavy or overwhelming in a space.
7. The Bertoia Stool: Another midcentury classic, Bertoia's wire form creates an unobtrusive silhouette that provides plenty of back support. See more Bertoias in action
We love the idea of a Long Island like this and then room for a long table in front of it when we have large family gatherings. For day to day use, maybe have smaller table.
