This is a witty piece, and due to its fairly small size, it allows you to have a bit of fun without committing to a full-on fantasy feel in the room. I'd fill the shelves with very normal items that you'd find in a curio to juxtapose the abstraction of the design and play along with the notion that there's nothing unusual going on here at all.
