Gubi Hi-Rek Chair
When Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen designed the Gubi Chair Collection (2003), they had no idea that they were creating the next must-have Danish chair. The family-run company Gubi is known for its ability to uncover design icons â a characteristic credited to âobstinacy and the courage to follow through an ideaâ â believed to be part of the DNA passed on from founders Lisbeth and Gubi Olsen to their sons, Jacob and Sebastian. Gubi started as a small business selling textiles to retailers, and more than 40 years later, its guiding principles are still aesthetics, innovation, functionality and quality. Every piece in Gubiâs assortment of products must offer something special âby virtue of its design, materials or technology.â The Gubi Chair fulfills all three of those. Made of injection-molded polypropylene, its gracefully shaped shell has edges that are turned away from the body, resulting in a relaxing seat with a smooth waterfall edge for long-term comfort. The Gubi Chair is included in the permanent collection at MoMA. Shell made in Denmark, base in Lithuania.
