cbrentano Do you think that the leaking is due to it being a teak tub? Or would the cedar tubs leak likely too? I am just about to make a decision between stone or wood and would like to get it right. I was considering the wood because the setting is amidst oaks on a hilltop but want to have a problem free solution.
James Cleary Architecture The problem was that the wood shrinks slightly as it dries out, which allows water to go right through the seams between the individual tub boards. In our case, we were not talking about a drip, the water would basically leak out as fast as it was coming in from the spigot.
The original leaky tub was replaced by the manufacturer. The replacement leaked badly too. We eventually went w/ a non-wood tub. I can't tell you whether we just had bad luck, or whether all wood tubs are likely to leak. But we won't be specifying any more of them just to be safe...the risk is too great given the chance of water damage to rooms below.
I hope that helps, it sounds like you have a beautiful site.
I would never have thought of all of this wood for bathroom walls and ceilings, and it's perfect for this lakeside cabin. The tub is just the greatest - it reminds me of Laura Ingalls taking a bath in some sort of barrel on "Little House on the Prairie."
9. Industrial bathtubs. I'm trying to imagine which industry and era this tub emerged from. Tanning hides in the time of Laura Ingalls Wilder? Whatever their original use, the stunning views, gorgeous wood walls and other modern accoutrements elevate the Little House on the Prairie-esque tub up to luxury garden soaker status.
I love the simplicity of this bathroom, the view is simply outstanding taking full advantage of nature and bringing in the outdoors in. Hopefully that window is tinted wouldn't want prying eyes.
