What are the rods forming the balastrade made out of and what is their diameter? How are they fastened to the stairs and celing above? Could you suggest a supplier for the materials? »
James Cleary Architecture They're 1/2 diameter steel rods, threaded at their top ends so that they screw into a supporting bracket, and tapped at their bottom ends to receive a screw that goes through the steel tread.
James Cleary Architecture They are stock items, but they were machined as needed to work in this staircase. The rods are 1/2" diameter steel rods, threaded at their top ends so that they screw into a supporting bracket, and tapped at their bottom ends to receive a screw that goes through the steel tread.
I absolutely adore how the traditional banister is replaced here with strong vertical lines that go all the way up to the ceiling. What a strong effect!
I like the ceiling of the loft looking like the floor. I like the support column and the simplicity of the stairs. It looks like it creates a sense of safety with the bars from the treads to the ceiling. Deborah
