Shelley Gardea Hi Sonya,
Here is the rundown on caring for Saltillo Tiles:
For Cleaning:
Before you clean your Saltillo tile, test it for its absorption rate. Place a couple of water drops on the surface and see how quickly they are absorbed. If the drops are absorbed in two seconds or fewer, the tile is very porous. If it takes one to three minutes, the absorption rate is low. Saltillo tiles vary in their absorption rates depending on how they were sealed.
If your tile is extremely absorbent, it probably has not been sealed. Use a residue remover followed by a commercial Saltillo tile cleaning product. If your Saltillo has a low absorption rate, it most likely has been sealed. Strip the floors using a commercial stripping solution before cleaning. Remove stains using a combination of diluted ammonia and lots of scrubbing. Rinse the floor often, and wipe up any standing water to avoid absorption.
After completely cleaning your floors, seal them with a commercial sealant. Aldon Chemicals makes products specifically for Saltillo tile, or contact a professional in your area for products.
For Maintenance:
The best way to avoid the laborious chore of cleaning Saltillo tile is careful maintenance. Wipe up spills and dirt right away to prevent stains and watermarks. For regular cleaning, use a slightly damp mop and the mildest cleaner you can find. Almost all manufacturers make a gentle formula. Method, Nature's Source and Green Clean are all good choices. Regardless of the brand you choose, do not use harsh chemicals on your Saltillo tile. Reapply sealant often to keep your floors looking their best.
As you walk down the pathway along the side of the house, you enter into a courtyard filled with plants and a large copper sculpture wall fountain.Lee-Hawk says her gardening ideas came from Scott Ward at White Sage Gardening. "He's hands down the best around for potting and yard design." The white modern chair juxtaposed next to the vintage imported chair from India was designed by Jeremiah Miller. Lights underneath the planters provide nice ambient lighting.
Instead of having right hand screen front patio area maybe just have flower bed border like this. The cactus looks very cool. Maybe we can pot big ones and keep
Cool "interior" patio/green space. Maybe not totally surrounded by house, but as a 3/4 surrounded patio. Cool rafters, would be neat with some glass, some open (or the option to take the glass out).
