I remember the first day I walked into this home…I thought I’d made a wrong turn and was in Greenfield Village! It was way too literal in its colonial direction. Thankfully, my wonderful clients agreed--They wanted a more modern feel. We got rid of the heavy drapery, reupholstered their settee, painted the woodwork a darker color so it would pop, and added new, clean-lined furniture and accessories to complement what they already had. Provided it works, we love to re-use pieces our clients already own; the result is totally fresh, but familiar and comfortable for them.

We will have to go with some carpeting like this. I would like to stick with something like "Martha Stewart Living Mount Vernon -12 ft. Carpet that does not cost a fortune. Over this will go some more attractive rugs.

Wall-to-wall sisal is kinda tricky. Sure, it's super gorgeous, not to mention timeless; however, you've gotta think of what kinda feet are gonna be running across it---and how often. No pets, no kids...no problem! But if you've got little ones, 2-legged or 4-footed, it's wise to go wall-to-wall strictly in bedrooms or formal sitting rooms which aren't run through all hours of the day.
