"Carnival Girl" is one of 8 paintings in a series called Postcards. The paintings are done to resemble old-fashioned, turn-of-the-century postcards or poster collectibles and memorabilia. These cards are characters of a carnival troupe who moved around the South from town to town. Some of the characters are performers, some are the family members, some are the side show attractions. I've identified each character with a cartouche or scroll with its title, and also a decorative stencil around the front and on to the deep sides (2 inches) of the painting. The art is then" stained" and aged in order to mimic the antiqued and yellowed appearance of many vintage collectibles and old postcards.
