However, regular wall outlets also do not technically meet that code, so installing a GFI "upstream" of a run of regular outlets will bring it into compliance.

Answering some questions... - I have one of these in my kitchen counter and LOVE it! The cord plugs in to a GFI receptacle in the base of my cabinet. Doug Mockett company is the only way to purchase, in my experience. Go to the "Visit Store" link and it takes you right to the specs.
It is raised above my countertop about 1/2" when closed, so keep that in mind. »
Space saver way to add outlets to countertop without taking up space or requiring major electrical/wall work. Excellent way to add ouilets if backsplash is in place.
