storage and food - I love your cabin and it seems as if this if a full time residence..... knowing the winters in vermont, and seeing the apparent isolation of your home.... i would think you would need to be well stocked on food staples.... is there some pantry or cold shed that you aren't showing? »
Susan Teare, Professional Photographer It's not a full-time home. I was the photographer for the architect and builder. There is not any more storage space. The homeowners are there quite a bit and they bring in just what they need for every season. The site is very beautiful too.
carlycc Oh yes! It's not a home without the doggy, and he blends in nicely too! hehe. Such a lovely open space for him to roam around. And I am starting to appreciate the ceiling the more I look at it too! This is such a groovy pad!! XXX

How high are the walls and what is the pitch of the roof? - We are designing something similar and want the high pitched roof and a loft. It is hard to imagine from a flat floor plan. »
paulao We are mid construction on a similar layout. Based on what I can see it looks like the walls are 9', maybe 10'. The roof pitch is probably 8:12 or maybe 9:12. We are constructing a 9:12 pitch. The room appears to be about 22' wide and longer than it is wide. Our house has 9' walls, 9:12 roof and the room is 22' wide by 12' long....so I'm pretty familiar with the way the space looks. We also have almost an identical loft space. Also, our is similar in that we have 2 interior doors on the loft wall. We will have a sliding barn door to the left and a regular swing door on the right of the loft wall. Maybe this will help until someone with the actual dimensions replies. Good luck!
What is the pickling recipe you used for the wood - Love the whitewashed walls and would like to know what combination of paint, etc you used. And also, what kind of wood are the floors?
Thanks,

Silver Maple Construction LLC The Flooring is the most distressed grade of 3/4" antique heart pine. We use antique heart a lot and to be honest this stuff really had us worried while we were laying it. It was really chewed up and a lot more beat up than the stuff we're used to. That said, as you can see, once we sanded and finished it with Waterlox finish it came out beautifully.
Phiona, the owner of fabric store Nido, wanted the cabin to have a patinated look. She achieved the aesthetic by pickling and marbling the walls and adding antique furnishings. Exposed wood paneling on the walls, ceiling and floors create warmth. "One of my favorite features in the cabin is the paneling details," says Flynn. "There is not a single piece of drywall in the cabin. From the pickled pine paneling to the natural pine ceiling, everything in the cabin feels like a built-in."
