boee Wood stoves are sized partially according to the amount of space you're heating. This home was actually just featured in a magazine I was reading and it's quite a small house--this is a good half of the home. It wouldn't need to be large to heat that small of a space.
who makes the stair case? - I'm looking for a space saving affordable stair case and was wondering, how much this one is and who makes it.
Thank you and congrats to such a stunning place! »
Joan Heaton Architects The stair in the photo is from Vermont Salvage. Custom wood treads were added on site. New spiral stair kits are available from The Iron Shop.
The new wood stove is centrally located, allowing heat to flow up to the loft bedrooms and warm up the open living space. The reclaimed wood flooring is a variety of species, and the spiral staircase and blue kitchen cupboard were picked up at Vermont Salvage. The old doors and tub were purchased at Mason Brothers Architectural Salvage, and the bathroom sink is placed on an old metal grain feeder that Eric and Phiona picked up at an antiques shop.
This is a stunning mix of an antique look with a modern interior. Although the wood stove looks antique, it is actually new. The floor is reclaimed wood from a variety of species. The spiral staircase and blue kitchen cupboard are indeed architectural salvage. Who would have guessed?
i love the idea of a loft in my home. it would be used for reading and relaxing and listening to music. It would be the only acceptable living space to be completely surrounded with windows. Windows are delightful in moderation and on the second (and subsequent) stories of a house, but otherwise i fear people coming in through them or even just staring at me through them. One of those odd things i suppose. I also would not want french doors in my bedroom. Seems so unsafe!
