Michael Badgett - Can the wainscot be done in the stairway area alone , and not have to carry throughout other areas in the house , and still be proper looking? »
Danniels-French Design, ARIDO, IDC Hi Michael, In this house the wainscoting is only in the entry hall, stairwell and upper hall. It does not carry through into any of the attaching rooms. What looks odd is if any sort of trim does not have a proper start and stop point and just stops midstream. So it would look odd if it was only in the lower hall and then did not carry on along and up the stairs. The fact that it finishes into the door casing, completes it. Then what starts in the adjoining room, starts afresh. And I feel if wainscoting is used everywhere, it is just too much. I think better to think of it almost as an accent and use selectively. If you looked at other pictures of this house you will see that in the kitchen/family room we used quite a detailed coffered ceiling. To use wainscoting with the coffered ceiling would look overdone - at least in my mind!
Hope this helps but please let me know if you have any further questions.
mjbadgett66 Thank you , I kinda thought it was okay to not carry it throughout , as long as it ends properly, but I wanted another opinion , I agree , it would be too much.
Danniels-French Design, ARIDO, IDC Hi, I did this job a couple of years ago so l'll check my files when back in my office and let you know colour.

Danniels-French Design, ARIDO, IDC Hi bamahodges, the colour on the walls in this job is ICI Mushroom Cap 20YY 55/151. I think it is the same colour number reference by CIL Paints. What took me so long to get back to you is that I have been trying to find my hand written notes for this job as I have an idea we may have cut the strength of the colour in this hall. Regardless, it's a great colour - full or reduced strength and goes with everything!
Danniels-French Design, ARIDO, IDC Yes - along with the wainscoting - its all a focal point upon entering the house. But thank you for the link to Flourish Design Elements - I've checked it out and you have some beautiful things. When will the fireplace surrounds be added? Always good to find new local sources - mind you, though you are in Ontario I didn't see a listing for Toronto?
Flourish Design Elements We do have some distributors that cater to the Toronto market, and if not we will source one for you. We have done some fireplaces already, but haven't been able to obtain photographs.
We do custom as well.

I would like to know some measurements - How far down from the chair rail do I install the inserts.
What angle do I cut to get the inserts to look like the ones in the picture »
Hope this helps but please let me know if you have any further questions.
