Rattan furniture. Much like wicker, rattan is a natural material that is used to produce a wide array of furniture. It has a relaxed feel to it, which is probably why I think of summer whenever I see a rattan chair. Add a chair or headboard made of this material to give your room a summery feel.
Woven Pieces As MainstaysAdding woven furniture in larger doses doesn’t have to be tricky. The quality and construction of the piece dictates whether you’ll get “charming cottage” or “backyard barbeque.” Sea grass wing chairs topped with generous cushions are a great place to kick back with a book or curl up for conversation with friends. Today’s woven forms are scaled to work well with modern sofas and other pieces. When adding woven side chairs, make sure that they are large enough to play well with the other furnishings. A great rule of thumb is to measure a woven piece against an upholstered piece. The chair and ottoman shown tucked into a sunny corner of this peaceful retreat are the same size a regular upholstered chair would be. Don’t skimp on the size if you’re going woven, or else it’ll end up looking like you pulled a chair in from the porch (which isn’t a bad idea actually ... )
