space - How many meter from kitchen to breakfast room? Is it possible for me to do the same design for my kitchen and dinning room ? The space is about 8,5 meter D * 7 meter W »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi Herti,
Thanks for your interest. I think this space combined is quite a bit longer than your space. it's probably more like 9 meters total length. However it's sometimes possible to modify ideas to fit a particular space.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. I believe the boards were 2 1/4" plain sawn. The floor was unstained, just polyurethaned. I don't remember the brand of poly.

Kitchen duo - If i paint ceilings and cabinets and moldings in Whisper White, what is a good wall color that will incorporate my favorite color of blue? »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. I think it totally depends on the look you are after. There are so many blues, it's hard to recommend one without knowing more about your goal.
All the best,
Absolutely love this kitchen design, do you do work in MA? - We are looking to create a similar look in our home. Although this kitchen is 10+ yr old (via previous comments) do you still design similar kitchens? Do you travel to MA at all? »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. The columns, cabinets and trim are all White Dove semi-gloss.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. The island is 3'-6" away from the perimeter cabinets. The breakfast room table would be to the right of the photo...not in view. I guess it's about 10' away.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your comment. If the room doesn't get much natural light, its best to paint it a color with a fair amount of pigment. It's completely counter intuitive, but small rooms are better with a bold color. What that color is depends on your taste of course. I always suggest people use the colors they like to wear, and usually look good in, for their home decor.

wowhownice CabinetCoat by Inselx , owned by Benjamin Moore is a great urethane paint for cabinets. It does not require any primer or sanding over varnished cabinets. Just make sure the cabinets are very clean & free of any greasy residue. This paint is self-leveling and best applied with either a foam roller or foam brushes. 2 coats required with a mild sanding with a high count sandpaper between coats. Dries in 1 hour, can apply 2nd coat in 6 hrs, but best to wait 24 hrs. I painted cabinets 9 years ago & a banister 12 years ago, both look very professional with a hard finish similar to a factory applied finish. After all this time still look like new and washes well.
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your inquiry. The cabinets and trim are all Benjamin Moore White Dove.

Range Hood - is it necessary if your ceiling is 11 to 12 feet high? - I notice the range in this picture does not have a hood. Is a hood necessary if your ceiling are 11 to 12 feet? »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. Actually this is a down draft hood. I think a hood is recommended for all ranges/cooktops. Maybe you want to have a down draft. They don't work quite as we'll as a standard hood. But it's a good solution for island stoves.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi Windy, I'm pretty sure this was a Thermador gas cooktop. But this renovation was done almost 15 years ago. So the model information wouldn't be very helpful to you. I'm pretty sure you can use any cooktop with a downdraft hood system...I think you purchase them separately. My advice would be to check with a local appliance distributor, to see what is available.

Jennifer
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi Anne,
Thanks for your interest. I'm sorry I don't understand your question.

Arches - Hi - would you please tell me the width of the each of the arch openings? Pretty design and similar to what I've got designed in my floor plan. This would help to get a great visual on sizes for me. Thanks in advance! »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi txgr, I don't remember the exact dimensions, and the drawings are now archived. I would suggest that proportion is more important than size. The dimensions that worked in this particual space may or may not be appropriate for your home. A design professional would be able to help you get the look right for your home.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC The ceiling was painted in Benjamin Moore white dove semi gloss, as was all of the trim. So the ceiling has a bit more shine and reflection than you normally see.
Cooktop - Do you have ventilation for your cooktop? If so, do you ever USE it!?!? I am contemplating putting our cooktop on our island like you have here. I really like what you have done here... »
Blue Bridge Cabinetry and Design I would HIGHLY recommend some sort of ventilation. Even if, for some strange reason, your local/municipal building code allows you to get away without putting one in. Preferably, an Island overhead hood fan, or at least the (less efficient) popup downdraft ventilation system. Just be careful to select one that will work with your cooktop technology (ESPECIALLY) if it's a gas cooktop.
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Larissa, Thanks for your nice comments. This cooktop has down draft ventilation. I believe the homeowner uses it regularly. I would not recommend installing a stove or cooktop without some kind of ventilation.
CoCoCo MJM, I know this isn't exactly the type of answer you're looking for, but we specialize in custom furniture and would love to work with you in designing a bar stool that emulates this, or is perhaps even better. Best of luck, and please dont hesitate to contact us.
iwantsonshine I'm thinking of ordering this type of floor very soon. Do you think that it is too light, or not enough contrast with the light cabinets? Thank you
cabinets in log home - Have a rustic log home w/ small kitchen and no upper cabinets. How can we hang these while maintaining the integrity of the logs? »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Also you might want to consider open shelves rather than upper cabinets. With open shelves you will still see the logs behind your dishes/glassware. It might be a way to keep that rustic feel.
saprst Thanks to both of you. I'll refine my search. The house is already pretty rustic so we might be ok with covering the logs in the kitchen but open shelving is a good idea. Maybe glass fronted cabinets or a combination. It will be an interesting challenge since the kitchen is quite small. Thanks again!
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest! Yes honed is a duller finish. You're right the surface does look shiny. It may be from the photographer's lights...or it may be that the granite is polished after all. Sorry, I don't really remember, this project was completed over 10 years ago.
All the best,
Jennifer

3. Arched kitchen entryway. Open, clean and full of light, this kitchen has large windows and a patio view that made Houzzers fall in love with it. The arched entryway in particular was a subtle touch that made all the difference.

I like the bookshelves and that they create a little nook for the kids, but the kids will be older by the time we move in here. I love the light in the kitchen. Maybe the kitchen would be too far from the table and comfy couch.
Liveable space with light, room, good flooring colour, connection to family room, built in bookshelves, not sure about the arches though....am I over that look?
