This contemporary lower level was finished to provide an entertainment center and a large work space as well as an inovative powder room. The powder room walls are laminated shoji-like screens to define the space. The ceiling treatment opens up the space and adds a contemporary feel.

shelving? - How is this shelving attached and can it hold a lot of weight (books etc) since there are no supports under them? »
ginabon Yes, this flotaing shelf can support books, the front edge of the shlef is 2" high and has a top and a bottom that is 3/4" hardwood (so it is hollow in the middle). During the framing stage several metal L shaped bracket were attached to the wall studs, then drywalled over, then the shelving wall slipped over the protruding part of the L bracket so all support is concealed. This providies all the strength necessary to support books and heavier objects. Thanks for the inquiry, hope it helped.
