The corrugated application to focus on here is the awning in the foreground. Alongside the vertical ribs of this overhang are painted red panels, standing-seam metal, wood slats, and wire mesh screens. Most intriguing is how the awning appears to be translucent.
This house in Spring Hill, Mississippi by architects John Beard and Dale Riser — featured in my ideabook on corrugated panels — echoes the rural vernacular with its inexpensive materials and response to climate, considerations that create the strong formal statement, not the other way around.
This house in Mississippi by Beard + Riser Architects is oriented along an east-west axis to maximize solar control. The front of the house faces south and features a large overhang that folds over the edge of the roof to block direct summer sun. The translucent fiberglass panels along the porch overhang allow filtered northern light into the house.
DO NOT like this version of board and batten - want only horizontal lines no vertical - can you butt the boards together so that there is only a thin seam and not trim it?
Rare is a house covered completely in corrugated metal. In most cases it is used selectively for walls or roofs. This house in Spring Hill, Mississippi by architects John Beard and Dale Riser exhibits this predilection, even as the various materials work together in this contemporary rural home.
