Sheltered from strong southerly winds, the glass breezeway opens to embrace the working fields to the south. The paver patio is bound by a stone wall and arbor and was carefully sited around and under a 50 year old ornamental cherry. Photos by Ian Gleadle

Path - What type of stone is used for the middle of this path? »
Japanese blood grass emerges in spring as a green grass but quickly adds blood-tinted tips as the season goes on. By mid-June, the grass is half red, half green and, by fall, it is almost completely red. The color works in harmony with the fall symphony of hot hues, but works just as well against blues and purples in the middle of summer.
"The wife is a great gardener, and saving some of the trees from the existing homestead site was very important to the clients," Lankford says. One of the trees the team planned around is this 60-year-old cherry tree, which served as a centerpiece to site the house and courtyard around. "It really anchors the property," Nelson says. Beyond it is the largest outdoor room, a patio off the kitchen.
plant a cherry tree off the corner of the house by the sunroom where gate is now - will arch over pathway through fairy garden connecting to the Japanese Maple by the bubbling rock
Example of what I don't want - formal path, squared off patio. Like curved patios of unusual shape (i.e. not an arc), and irregular paths with groundcover sprouting between wide stepping stones. A path that looks like its been there for years. See other path in this same article.
