Love this floor! I'm considering this type of floor for my kitchen. - Can you tell me about the process and advise me how this will hold up? I have three 60 pound dogs and was wondering if it will scratch easily. It easy to maintain?

Thank you for your interest in this project. The floor featured in this photo is white pine, with a tung oil finish. If you are considering this type of flooring, I would suggest a harder wood species. White oak should be fairly easy to locate in reclaimed lumber, and would be more suitable for your application. This material was purchased from Armster Reclaimed Lumber in East Hartford CT. Most lumber companies will mill the style joints for you, ie. tongue/groove, shiplap, etc....but the ends will have to be milled by the installer. The finishing process required minimal sanding with an orbital sander w/ 100 grit paper. We only wanted to bring out a hint of the interior color, without removing the rough sawn character of the surface. All of the sanding was done prior to installation, so there is minimal dust to be concerned about. The finishing process was very simple. After the floor was installed we applied a coating of hard sealer, then two coats of tung oil. For use in a kitchen or high traffic area, reapplication of the tung oil may be needed occasionally, but it is a simple process. The supplier for the tung oil was Sutherland Welles in North Hyde Park, VT. Both venders listed were extremely helpful.

Oak & Broad
I completely agree, reclaimed White Oak is certainly available and will hold up much better to doggie paws. :-) Let me know if you have any reclaimed wood questions.
