cassowaryhill Yes I agree with both of you. Im in the starting process of doing something different. A modern take on Ancient Egypt. As I come from South Africa, and I can assume you've never been or even thought of it in your design, I would consider this very Modern Tropical African! A job well done and executed.
debbieallen75 I live Hawaii and that is about as far from tropical as you can get. It is classic and beautiful but not tropical I am NOT talking Tiki hut tropical. This lounge area feels cozy and welcoming with the help of warm, earthy colors. We have been drilled with the rule to avoid dark colors when there is a lack of natural light, but I say just go with the flow and rather than fight it. Tervola says, "Island-style design incorporates old pieces with the new, mixing materials for a more contemporary look in more of the high-end homes."
Choose furnishings that double as seating. Pieces that are easy to move around the room, such as ottomans or stools, are helpful, too. This way, guests can pull up a seat to wherever the action is. “Ottomans are a great way to add seating to the group without having to pull out folding chairs,” says Holloway.
