Type of material on Fireplace - Is the material/design on fireplace Tile to look like concrete or concrete panels. I didn't see a "concrete" answer to this questions previously. I want this exact look on my wall with gas fireplace, but not sure where to buy or get this. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this project needs to get underway quickly.
Thanks! »
2Stone Designer Concrete The panels look to be concrete, its a technique called "Board form" This look was traditionally created by casting the concrete walls for the house using plywood. 2Stone just released our new "Board Form" line of tiles. They can be created in any size ( we just made a 4'x8' sheet for the exterior wall of our studio) The tiles are typically half to 3/4" thick and can be installed by a tiler. The board form ships easily worldwide.

douglas58 The furniture came from two sources. The chesterfield came from a store in vancouver, British Columbia called Up Country. I think the store is now only in Toronto. But the Vancouver store became a new store whose name I cannot remember but is named after a dutch designer. The two individual chairs are art deco from the 1930's from Montreal. They weight a ton and have genuine horsehair in them.
douglas58 The fireplace panels are actually concrete panels that are simply the under layer that were installed to accept the tiles we had planned to put up. However, when we saw the concrete panels, we liked them so we kept them as it. They are a type of fibre board that are impregnated with concrete. Hope tha helps. They were never meant to be seen!
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio - If you're using a natural stone or concrete composite material, I recommend recessing the mount, power and cabling (not the TV) into the wall FIRST, and then running your material to the recess. If you have to do it afterwards, you'll have to be careful about drilling and mounting to avoid having cracks telegraph across the material, but otherwise it's no more difficult than any other TV mount.
How are the seams finished? - I notice that you can still see the nails/screws. Just wondering what you did with the seams between the panels? Are they finished or left as is? »
Consider an unusual material for the surround. In this cement application, it is an unexpected and welcome contrast in this clean-lined, modern living room.
Concrete. A favorite of eclectic and industrial styles, raw concrete is durable and different. Aim for this sturdy solution when you want an edgy, outside-the-box look. Design idea: Using exposed hardware to adhere the concrete panels to the fireplace adds a small detail that makes a big difference.
