This, after all, it's all about having an outdoor sanctuary in the city. If you don't have room for a dining table, go with comfy lounge furniture and a coffee table instead.

Vines cover parts of this durable arbor, but that's OK, because they too provide protection.• The seating is just right: two cushioned benches and a low coffee table with a huge surface for plants, wineglasses or even dinner plates. And the low-maintenance flooring is suitable for keeping the table and chair legs stable.• Finally, what really makes this space luxurious is the planting plan. Textures are lush and varied. The foliage billows to partially obscure the seating area. If you want a cozy living area with a couple of love seats or oversize chairs, an area that's 8 by 8 feet would provide just enough space. I usually like to tuck these types of outdoor nooks back in a corner, if possible, to make them more private.
