This room is all about colour and how to make an eclectic mix of inherited and new pieces work together. The table is mid-century modern teak, the couch is new and the love seat was inherited. The sideboards were inherited from family and I updated them with a chocolate spray laquer and blue milk glass handles. The lamps were a bargain find at HomeSense. And the artwork is a mix of prints and originals as well as a couple of inherited pieces. The inspiration for the colour scheme came from the Sumak area rug.
Pamela Nixon Bennett i have two inherited dressers that look identical to the ones you have in this photo. i wanted to move them in my livingroom, which lead me on a google search and eventually to this page. so glad its going to work after looking at your picture. thank you!!!
Wall picture placement - Is it best to start placing the smaller or larger pictures on the wall first? How did you choose these pictures to go together? »
4. Go for salon style. Start with the largest piece of art. Center it in the middle or just off the middle, and then place the rest of the art around it in a way that pleases your eye. You can decide on a layout by laying the art on the floor until you find a solution that works or by cutting out the shape of each piece of art in brown craft paper and taping it to the wall to test out ideas.
This room looks cozy and comfortable. Overall I like it, even though I don't like all of the individual elements (like the drawer handles and lamp, for example).
