Roof Color - Alex: Do you know the color/material of this roof? In particular, is it galvalume with an acrylic finish, galvalume with a Kynar-grade paint finish, or some other material? Absolutely love the look. »
uakron01 According to the builder, Mark Bragg (Alix's husband), this roof is a 5V galvalume roof with an acylic/clear finish (i.e., it is not a painted finish, but you are actually looking at the galvalume substrate itself). We selected the same finish for the metal roof on our home (completed in Dec of 2012) and I can attest to the fact that the color looks just like this. Instead of a 5V roof, we went with an Englert mechanically seamed roof, but the look is similar. Hope this helps!
Is there anywhere I can see a floor plan? - I absolutely love the look of this home. I have a slight floor plan obsession- I love looking at different lay outs and making my own! »
Alix and Mark modeled their home after an older house they loved on Sullivan Beach. Silver was chosen as the color for the metal roof because it reflects the sun's rays, keeping the home cooler.
You'll notice the stairs are incorporated inside the footprint of the home. Alix and Mark were inspired to design them this way in the style of the plantation homes they had seen in Louisiana.
Lowcountry style is in the smaller details. "There are so many things that make a home distinctly Charleston, but the shutters are what does it on this home," says interior designer Alix Bragg. "The old-school style of the louvered shutters (painted Charleston green) is a staple in the Lowcountry. Of course, the palm trees and metal roof give it away too!" See the rest of this home
This would be good for the family vacation house we could build with our lottery winnings. We could put little spiral staircases and make sets of three story "townhouse apartments" built together under one roof, with common areas.
