What kind of wood are the cabinets made of? - I love the horizontal lines in the wood that show through the stain - can someone tell me what kind of wood this might be and the color of stain? »
Frosted glass cabinet doors? - you did a laundry room that had glass door cabinets and you frosted the words "wash, dry, clean, dirty" on the galss. Who make the cabinets in that photo and where can I order them?
Thanks for your time »
While this is a long narrow kitchen, the work space at the far end of the room as well as the island in the foreground provide function. The addition of the warm tones on the upper cabinets above the stove and the surface lining the island bring in contrast and warmth.
As above ... not so below. I went through a tarot card phase in high school and we had a humorous deck that had unconventional sayings on them. One was "as above, so below" and I always loved that one. Well, throw out that advice in the kitchen. Mix it up — do your wall cabinets a completely different color or stained natural wood, versus painted. The tough part is deciding what finish to pick for your adjacent tall cabinets!
3. Pull the ceiling down. Conversely, dark cabinets on top and lighter ones on the bottom can help to make a kitchen feel snug and cozy. A contrasting color is also a great method of highlighting handsome architecture, such as the four-pane design of the upper cabinetry in this space.
I am not a huge fan of the double drawer pulls on these small scale cabinets, but that is personal taste. The designer did a great job incorporating door inserts to keep the space fresh. I personally love using chalkboard paint in kitchens ...who isn't always looking for a place to take notes in a kitchen??
