Wainscoting painted with a warm, creamy hue is a sure way to make a room more cozy. In a space with an abundance of earth tones, honey beige trim creates a nice flow and ties all of the furnishings together.

We often see paneling painted white, but I love how the designer deviated from the norm and borrowed a warm beige hue from the area rug. The designer's selection maintains the entryway's cozy atmosphere and complements tones in the furniture and the wood flooring.

This entry hall shows a taller wainscot treatment. Its height brings the eye up and makes the room feel a bit taller. Interestingly, applying wainscoting close to door heights in a space with ultra-high ceilings actually humanizes the scale, bringing a warmth to what could be cold, cavernous spaces without sacrificing any of the outstanding architecture we get with vaulted or double-height ceilings.

Here is the same idea, but reversed: The wainscoting is a darker shade than the walls. This application can be a good choice for rooms with lower ceilings, as the lighter wall above the wainscoting can trick the eye into thinking they're higher.
