Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR Think of it the same way you would a table lamp. The light generally should come from your side to shine on reading material. If you are sitting up in bed, most would be right about even with your head or just a little higher at the most. You don't want to look up and see under a shade to see the light bulb. These are nice because you can hang them at any height and a bare bulb will not be glaring in your eyes. But they also aren't super reading lights.
Can you please identify the type of door and sill used in this setting. It would appear that this is an entrance that could be very useful for ADA applications. Is this an exterior door? Thank you very much. »
By the side of the bed. I've also begun to notice light fixtures hung on either side of a bed in lieu of table lamps. This can be an effective way to light the area, particularly in spaces where they may be limited room to set a table lamp on a nightstand.
I love the use of pendant lights and sconces for bedside lights. It's an incredibly simple and minimalistic look, but still allows for a splash of flair and style with lighting choice. This master bedroom in Hawaii didn't use any bedside tables with the pendants, but adding them in would still keep the look clean.
Be sure your bed is flanked with task lighting. Put them on separate controls in case your partner wants to turn in before you’ve finished your chapter.
