While beadboard works well as a backsplash, it's also a great option for a kicksplash. Again, you can have this pre-cut at the store if you're saw-phobic. Just keep in mind that in order to have a finished corner, you'll need to box in the ends with strips of trim. I find that 1x3 MDF works best as it's perfectly flat and easy to paint. Pine works as well but it's not gonna look as sleek once finished.
For this homeowner, sunny skies are in the forecast each day. Painting the ceiling is not only a clever way to refresh a room — it also gives the illusion of sunshine in a space that doesn't receive much light.
In the kitchen: This designer painted the ceiling yellow to brighten up a kitchen that didn't have much natural light. Gray counter stools and countertops ground all of the white from the cabinets and floor.
If you've ever doubted how much difference a painted ceiling can make, just cover that part of the photo with your thumb for a moment. Isn't it amazing how much life the room loses without a crowning touch of yellow?
The kitchen needed brightening: "It was a dark corner of the house, and the shutters were often closed. Painting the cabinets was too much of a commitment for the client, so I talked her into painting the ceiling." The result is a sunny and cheerful space.
Who says ceilings have to be white? This lemon yellow ceiling in an all-white kitchen is so fresh and modern and exuberant. Positive vibes only in a room like this.
Brett - I like that yellow on the ceiling, or something slightly toned down from that..
Rebecca - I think that this color would look better toned down, with dark cabinets. I think right now the white, just makes it look brighter.
Perfect way to integrate yellow and blue into a white kitchen. Not such an extreme yellow, perhaps, but something to make the ceiling pop, rather than washing out.

My yellow ceiling idea for the dining room/living room ceiling area - the actual colour in this photo is too strong for me, but a softer yellow would be fabulous! Understated but noticeable for a happy, fresh feel.
