Witt Construction Local granite to upstate New York. It is a dry-stack surround and hearth.

wiskibums did you use bead board in the upper part? I have a floor to ceiling great room and like the idea of the beadb vs all stone. I don't think I want such a dramatic focal point with all stone. Would you paint the beadb a lighter / darker shade of the wall paint? Thanks

Stone surrounding the fireplace opening. I thought i wanted to replace my whole mantle and put floor-to-ceiling stone...but this would almost look just as good and be cheaper! Replace my tile with stone and then above the mantle put quality woodwork/molding to the ceiling. Ya, I really think this is a viable option! :)
