bonedoc14 Those mouldings are original plaster mouldings. They are cast and made from plaster, water, and straw and then applied. They can be made new from old or custom molds. The wonderful artisans who make this beauties are unfortunately a dying breed.
The Shabby Nest Valspar's Wool Coat is similar to the wall color. I'd venture a guess that the stencillled pattern could be approximated using either a high gloss version fo the wall paint color or a tinted glaze.

Upholstering these two regally framed chairs in bright purple is an unexpected, fun touch. Playing with scale — as done with the giant floor lamp — has the same effect.
Oh, the stories this molding could tell! Just imagining the creative effort that went into developing it is inspiring in itself. And against the patterned gold wallpaper and brilliant royal purple, the scene becomes vintage elegance with a modern twist at its very best.
Lamp. Anchor your living room with an oversized lamp for a light source that really makes a statement. By placing a smaller lamp and piece of artwork on the opposite side of the fireplace in this photo, the look becomes balanced instead of overpowering.
Add a dose of purple love through an accent chair upholstered in an eggplant shade — and in leather, now that is glam. Purple works really well with shiny tones. The chairs in front of this shimmering wallpaper create a very rich feel.
Most molding we see is fairly typical, off-the-shelf and unremarkable, although almost all of it gives dimension to spaces. Then you come across molding like this, and it just deserves a moment to take it in. Highly decorative details become a layer of texture that deepens the design and cannot be ignored.
Consider the furnishing style and other decor elements. This room also has high ceilings, but unlike those in the previous photo, the furnishings are brightly colored and traditional in style. The floor lamp is very large, and the wall covering has a large-scale pattern. The size of the crown molding allows it to hold its own against these furnishings. Anything smaller would have been too wimpy for this room. It is also not as heavily ornate as the previous molding, which is good because the pattern doesn't fight agains the pattern in the wall covering.
This mantel is dressed with an oversize mirror with a scale that matches the height of the ceiling. This helps draw the eyes up to that gorgeous crown molding that's often found in older homes. And did you notice the whimsical larger-than-life lamp in the corner?
