EnvironmentalLights.com From a lighting perspective, choose a small bulb that twinkles to set off the glass features in the store. Warm white will appear more yellowish like traditional incandescent lights, or pure white will give a brighter white color.
Or look at a non-traditional shaped Christmas light like smooth globe lights, which give off a soft diffused light and are not bright but more of an accent.
I have a traditional kitchen with hardwood floors. I'm replacing the white tile on the island with whitish marble & painting the cupboards white. Should I get SS or white appliances? »
renie414 Kellymo,
Your kitchen is beautiful. Panel ready for refrig. is a good idea-it's what I have now & because there are 2 of them in the kitchen all that SS might be too much.
I have two appliances with panel ready fronts...my dishwasher and fridge. The others (double ovens, warming drawer, range top) are in SS. I can't say I feel an overpowering of SS. It feels warm and homey.
Color around skylights? - Is that shadow up by the skylights, or is it painted a blue color? My husband and I are discussing this as we have a large skylight in the kitchen and just getting ready to paint our kitchen. »
When similar objects such as these fabulous baskets are grouped, they have a much bigger impact than if a lot of very dissimilar objects are used. It reminds me of the rules of landscaping that say using a lot of one particular flower creates a much greater impact than than you'd get if you used just a few of many different flowers. It really is fascinating how much landscaping and decorating have in common.

When you're thinking about maximizing natural light, also consider minimizing fluorescent light — especially in kitchens. If you're a stay-at-home mom or dad and spend a lot of time in the most-used room of the house, you want to make sure that your body can stay in tune with its biological clock. Being out of sync can mean fatigue, depression or what The Washington Post calls a months-long case of jet lag.

Bingo--something closer to this along island facing family room, but with cottage feel: farmstyle wire/mesh doors interspersed with some solid cabinet fronts in an antiqued finish, lighting as well.
