Moroccan Rug (Boucherouite)

Berber rag rugs, also called Boucherouite means rag in Moroccan Arabic) are a recent pan-Moroccan phenomenon brought on by the loss of the nomadic life style of the Berber people and the subsequent loss of their flocks of sheet. The tradition is rich in textiles are remains so to this day. The weavers have replaced wool with rags to keep the tradition alive. The asymmetrical symbols woven into the rugs are created by the women who weave them.
