The chairs are antique balinese (indonesian) chairs that I purchased in Vancouver, British Columbia. They are made of teak and are weather friendly....a bit of teak oil to keep them looking good every year. They were made around the 1930's and if you look for an antique dealer you might find something similar. They were around $650 per chair. I hope this helps with your search! Google dutch colonial indonesian for more info.
Glenna Partridge Garden Design Thanks so much for the compliment dyannah!
I purchased the chairs at an antique shop here in Vancouver. (They were located in South Granville area but have sadly gone out of business) The woman might have an online presence and if I can find her again I'll forward you the website. They were about $450.00 per chair I think.
They are antique balinese teak chairs circa 1930's....at least that's what was on the tag. I fell in love with them and had to buy them! I've gotten so many people asking me where to get them and I wish I could send you to a particular store. I've looked online a few times to see if there is anything out there like this. Maybe take the photo to an antique specialist (Indonesian) and they can help you locate something like this. Or....Just a thought...if you want the measurements I would be happy to send them to you and then you could hire a furniture maker to make a similar chair. Let me know and I'd be happy to send you the info! I noticed a Houzz listing here in Vancouver who might be able to help. (Jeff Martin Joinery)
dyannah Thanks for the quick and kind response, Glenna. It just figures that the chairs are from Bali. I have been so into everything Balinese and, lately, African, that I am not surpirsed to learn of their origin. I have a contact who travels to Bali a few times each year...maybe I could show him the chairs and ask him to keep his eyes open. Art Deco Balinese chairs -- lucky find, Glenna! Obviously, you have exceptional taste! : )
