Granite Grannies Your local fabricator will be able to show you different soapstones that are available from local suppliers. Soapstone names can be rather pointless since they are not consistent across suppliers. So even if you got the name, you'd still need to look at everything in order to find one that had the look you want. I recommend finding a fabricator who will let you custom purchase a slab or two after visiting different suppliers to find one you like

w.b. builders It was a much "softer" feel than granite and there are definitely pros and cons to each. I'd recommend visiting in depth about upkeep of soapstone with your Contractor/Showroom prior to installing it.

feeny Well, I'm two years into a soapstone countertop and still in love with it. I do use soapstone wax on it every 6 months or so, just to deepen the color and freshen up the finish, but otherwise it is extremely easy to care for and still looks beautiful. Its natural matte finish is a good choice for people like me who aren't wild about polished granite, but love the look of natural stone.

w.b. builders We have several clients that have chosen Soapstone and they all love it for different reasons. Some of them wax or oil it regularly to keep it looking pristine, while others have left the counters take on more of a patina finish. However, you have to be willing to keep it waxed/oiled or be okay with it taking on a patina. We sometimes get sample pieces of counter for our clients to "test" out. That way you can see for yourself if you can live with the look. Good luck on your decision.
